eID Middleware

Since 2012, we have served as the official development partner to the Estonian Information System Authority (RIA) for DigiDoc and Web eID. These solutions are not products of RaulWalter, nor are they commercially owned or branded by us. They are state systems, developed for and on behalf of the Estonian government, under long-term contractual responsibility.

Our role has been to design, build, and maintain the core software components that enable secure digital signing and electronic identification for millions of users. This includes full lifecycle responsibility—from architecture and implementation to long-term maintenance—within a regulated, high-assurance national e-government environment.

In short: the state owns the services; we built them, and we continue to stand behind their technical integrity.

DigiDoc

DigiDoc is Estonia’s core software suite for digital signing and encryption, and RaulWalter has served as its official development partner since 2012. Our responsibilities include developing and maintaining the DigiDoc4 desktop application, browser extensions, and backend services — ensuring eIDAS-compliant cryptographic operations, a modern user experience, and reliable support across major platforms.

DigiDoc integrates seamlessly with all pillars of the Estonian eID ecosystem — the ID-card, Mobile-ID and Smart-ID — and is relied upon daily by government agencies, private-sector organisations and millions of end-users.

With more than a decade of hands-on experience, our team has helped build one of Europe’s most widely adopted digital signing and encryption solutions, enabling secure authentication, legally binding digital signatures, encrypted document exchange and cross-platform trust services.

Web eID

Web eID is the next-generation web-based authentication and digital signing technology that replaces legacy browser extensions in Chrome, Edge, and Firefox with a modern, secure, and standards-compliant solution. RaulWalter has been the official development partner of Web eID from the outset, responsible for developing the client application, native components, security protocols, and service-level integrations.

Web eID enables browsers to communicate directly with ID cards or other eID devices at the operating-system level, providing stronger cryptographic security and future-proof support for both Estonian and international eID solutions.
