Lauris Kaplinski

Master of Data

Lauris Kaplinski is a senior architect and data processing expert at RaulWalter, with an exceptionally strong academic and technical background in bioinformatics, algorithmic data processing, and large scale system development. He holds a PhD in bioinformatics and has more than 20 years of experience in research, development, and engineering roles, focusing on code that processes massive, complex datasets with high precision and efficiency.

Lauris has created and developed several internationally used bioinformatics tools (including GenomeTester, FastGT, and KATK), which researchers and technology partners around the world widely utilise. His work includes writing high-performance algorithms in C, C++ and Java, optimising parallel processing, designing low-level system architecture, and building functionality that must be fast, stable, and mathematically rigorous.

Before joining RaulWalter, Lauris worked at Ximian, Biodata, the Estonian Biocentre, and the University of Tartu, where he developed genomic data analytics platforms, modelling tools, and DNA hybridisation models. His work has a strong scientific foundation, supported by multiple international publications in reputable journals.

At RaulWalter, Lauris contributes to the development of eID and secure document personalisation systems, large-scale data processing, quality-control algorithms, optimised workflows, and complex technical components within PrintFlow and other critical systems. His ability to combine scientific thinking, engineering precision, and systematic design makes him one of the company’s most important technical key contributors.
